A message from the volunteer coordinator for the CNY Cat Coalition’s c=
at adoption program.

Hi everyone,

This email is to make everyone aware that as of April 28th the Adoptio=
n Center will be in desperate need of volunteers to cover the 9am to 11am o=
pening shifts on any of the following weekdays: MONDAY, WEDNESDAY, THURSDAY=
and FRIDAY.
The adoption center is located at 3553 W Genesee St, Syracu=
se, NY 13219.

Please let me know if you can work the 9-11am shift on any of the days=
noted. And, please let your friends and family know that the Fairmount Pet=
Smart Adoption Center is in need of volunteers and give them a volunteer ap=
plication to fill out or have them
pick one up at the adoption center.

ians in support of alternatives to animal models as research, support empat=
hy for animals in laboratories.

WWAIL is=20
every year in April. Please join In Defense of Animals during World Week
for Animals in Laboratories (WWAIL) to speak out against the abhorrent=20
use of animals in testing and research.Please join with thousands of other =
people across the country this week, including many doctors, scientists and legislators, in calling for an end to th=
e use of animals as research subjects.

Marshall St. is at the epicenter of animal laboratories in Syracuse.=20
Patrons of the Marshall Square Mall and shops are not aware that=20
thousands of laboratory animals languish withing walking distance.=20
Within just one square mile surrounding the Mall are Syracuse=20
University, SUNY Upstate Medical University, and the Institute for Human
Performance. all of whom conduct research on hundreds of mice, rats,=20
primates, and other animals, using student tuition fees and taxpayer=20
money.
Join SARO for a public awareness event. We need people=20
to hold signs and support our activists who will be living the lonely=20
life of a caged lab animal for the duration of the event.

organizing in terms of campaigns, strategies, and tactics. Additionally,
Direct Art, Direct Action seeks to examine the role all mediums of art=20
play in the presentation, facilitation, and documentation of lasting=20
human rights advances. Workshop includes breakdown and overview of=20
Jared=92s coverage of both the Democratic and Republican National=20
Conventions in 2004 & 2008 while on assignment for independent Rhode
Island-based news outlets, as well as his experiences as a core=20

Dear Members and Supporters of
NYSHA:
Please contact the office of Senator Patty Ritchie and ask her HOLD bill #S=
4904
(Maziarz) in the Senate Agriculture Committee. This bill is on the Senate
Agriculture Committee meeting agenda scheduled for Tuesday (1/28/14). So please act now!
This bill amends Agriculture and Markets Law to create a new section, 308-B=
. If
a Freedom of Information request is made to a state entity about a farm
operation, that entity is required to notify the farm operation of the requ=
est within
five business days of its being made, identify the requestor by name and
address, and describe the records requested. Thus providing farmers with an
opportunity to explain why information should not be provided, so th=
ey
could block requests from being fulfilled. This proposed bill substantially
weakens the current FOIL process and exposes the requestor to possible
harassment.

Not only is this against our
rights as citizens, but if this bill passes, any requests for information a=
bout
factory farms — where animals might be treated inhumanely — or from veget=
able
farms — where food might be produced using harmful pesticides or chemicals=
=96 may
be blocked and the farmer will be tipped off that they may be under scrutin=
y.
This could lead to a “slippery slope” allowing for other agencies to
adopt similar legislation which would prevent the rights of citizens to have
means to protect themselves, animals, and the environment.
Let Senator Ritchie know that you believe this is nothing more than another
version of the “Ag Gag” bill and this bill must NOT be voted out of
the Senate Agriculture Committee!
