2 to 3:30 p.m. ET, OJJDP, in collaboration with=
the National District Attorneys Association (NDAA), will host a webinar on=
“When the Abuse of Animals Co-Occu=
rs With Child Abuse,” presented =
by Allie Phillips (Director of NDAA’s National Center for Prosecution of An=
imal Abuse and Deputy Director of National Center for Prosecution of Child =
Abuse).
Animal abuse is often a symptom of other violence in the home, and childre=
n who witness it may engage in aggressive behavior toward people and animal=
s. This Webinar will focus on the link between animal cruelty and child abu=
se and highlight intervention strategies, including team responses, talking=
with children about their experiences with animals, animal-assisted activi=
ties to help maltreated children who have witnessed animal abuse, and progr=
ams to assist family members with animals to flee abusive homes and find sa=
fety.
